Respect of the body

Even if the main idea is learning to express oneself through African dance, this dancing can also help oneself to discover one's body and give it more attention. lt deserves respect, no matter how it reacts in the dance – with laughing, with tensions, with pain or with relaxation. The body needs the dialogue with an open mind.
Wave-like movements in the dance The African dance knows many different forms. Apart from the powerful movements of African dances, Jacqueline Moesch Mampuya uses soft wave-like movements that move from the pelvis, past the spine, to the neck and into the arms and hands. The dancers discover their own blockages and tensions, make their own bodies more supple and balance them.

The straight posture The straightening of the posture is a main element of the work. With the help of Jacqueline Moesch Mampuya the participants try to discover their own balanced posture and learn to handle their bodies correctly. Dancing encourages the participants to straighten themselves and to use the space that is given – in the dance and in life.

Stamina and concentration To learn the African dance is intensive, it requires stamina and concentration. Sometimes one should not give up despite tiredness in order to discover new creative sources. Jacqueline Moesch Mampuya does not train in front of mirrors, so that the participants do not get distracted and can get in contact with themselves.

The feet

One dances barefoot. The soles of the feet feel the floor and are in immediate contact with it. The joints feather the bodyweight, so that the foot lands softly on the floor instead of slamming into it. Instead of hard stamping it is intensive touching of the floor.

Dialogue between dance and music The courses and workshops are whenever possible accompanied by professional musicians. The work with Jacqueline Moesch Mampuya opens the musicians a field that inspires them and helps them to develop the sensitivity of the dialogue between movement and rhythm. The dancers are supported in their individual work by the musicians.
